I’ve had the pleasure of working more this year on science images than ever before. These assignments tend to have slightly different goals than the typical editorial piece, in that there is an emphasis on conveying information in an accessible way. I relish the research on new topics, reaching an understanding of the content and trying to synthesize it visually.
Two recent projects for Florida International University covered two different areas of their research. The first one, above, was for an article entitled “The Nano Cure”, dealing with nano-magnetic particles being used to carry medications across the blood-brain barrier. The second, below, shows a retinal implant being developed to bypass a damaged eye to deliver digital images to the optic nerve, allowing people with reduced vision to “see”.
